Little introduction & some questions

Hi there blockout fans!

I've played blockout a lot in the past.
And always the 3X3X6 extended block set. For 17 years a friend and I have a little competition here in Holland.
I've played the game a lot on my Amiga and on every computer after that ;-)

Question #1
Because I always play the same level/block set I noticed patterns in the block set. Sometimes I could predict which block was coming next.
Nowadays I noticed I forgot those patterns. Anyone else noticed this? Remember I used the original Blockout. (and still am with a DOS emulator)

Question #2
Are the score calculations in Blockout 2.5 the same as in the original blockout?
Our record is somewhat above 70.000 (74.776 I believe) in 3X3X6 Extended (start level 5), but when I see the highscore of the great Renato I can't imagine that is possible, 161.809!!!
We've played this game for years and we never thought is was possible to score above 100.000.

hey subsense, if you had the feeling that you could predict the next block in the classic blockout then they might have used a special random number generator ? does anyone knows about this ? would be an interesting gameplay element to let "hardcore" gamers "see the matrix" ;-)

regarding scoring, maybe jean-luc can comment.

cheers, and thanks for joining !

Thanks for the reply.
I'm kinda sure that in some games, lets say one out of the 50 I could predict 10 or more blocks.
But maybe it was just my imagination, I can not exclude that my mind was blurred of the many, many hours of playing blockout ;-)

Hello subsense

Today I was walking around into the forum, noticing it was renewed 8) reading your post.
It is really very nice to read and know that there are more 'idiots' like me in Holland who mostly play the 3x3x6 extended.
I play that modus since begin 90 - so almost 25 years for many many hours.

When I started I played the California version - internet did not exist - so sharing scores was not possible.
Later http://www.blockout.de/index_english.html was visible on the internet. On that site you could share your highscores. If you look on that site you will notice the latest update was in 2007.
Also with the California dreams version you could reach scores above the 100.000.
At that time the ultimate highscore in the 3x3x6 Extended was: 137.833 (played on 25-8-2002 by razvigor.ignatov)

Regarding your patterns, I recognice only 1 very small pattern in the 5x5x10 modus - in the 3x3x6 I normally get upleasantly supprised by wrong blocks :P
The highscore I have there is reached by a concatenation of good blocks on the right moment
