Congratulation to FredJust for getting the 3rd place in 3DMania :s_bravo:

It starts to be really difficult to beat high-scores. :s_fright:

thanks :)

I tried a new strategy
top secret, don\'t read this :

make a lot of 2 lines but do not try 3 lines
so 32 two lines and only 4 three lines in my new best score

and I play more quickly now : 66.8 blocks/minutes :woohoo:
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... oreid=3402

dmahser only 62.4 blocks/minutes :P
so I can hope beat this score ;)

a question : What is the fall speed in level 7,8,9 and death ?

une question : quelle est la vitesse de chute en block/minutes en niveau 7 8 9 et crane ?

théoriquement a partir de combien de blocks par minutes placés peut on espérer survivre en fonction du level ?

The fall speed is (at level 0) 1 step / 5.5 seconds and is increased
by a factor of 1.5625 at each level.
So you have the formula: speed = 1.5625^level / 5.5 (in step/s)

I let you do the lifetime calculation ;)
Shouldn\'t be too complex.

Post edited by: jlp_38, at: 2008/01/23 15:37

So I find :
Blocks/minute Necessary to play on Depth 10

level 0 : 1.1
level 1 : 1.7
level 2 : 2.7
level 3 : 4.2
level 4 : 6.5
level 5 : 10.2
level 6 : 15.9
level 7 : 24.8
level 8 : 38.8
level 9 : 60.6
level 10: 94.6

with more 60 blocks/minutes you can play Theoretically on level 9 but level dead is impossible on depth 10

And on Depth 18 :

Blocks/minute Necessary to play on Depth 18

level 0 : 0.6
level 1 : 0.9
level 2 : 1.5
level 3 : 2.3
level 4 : 3.6
level 5 : 5.6
level 6 : 8.8
level 7 : 13.8
level 8 : 21.5
level 9 : 33.6
level 10: 52.6

Note that the blocks/minutes factor shown in the advanced statistics
is an average. I\'ll try to add a chart displaying the instant blocks/minutes factor. However, I totally agree that playing the
death level in 3DMania is extremely hard.

And on Depth 18 :

Blocks/minute Necessary to play on Depth 18
...
level 10: 52.6

That shows that infinite play might be possible. I\'m currently
wondering if some extra level are needed. I\'m thinking to add
extra level for pit depth>10 (or 12). The problem is that it will
invalidate some score.

Any ideas are welcome...

hy jean-luc: how many scores are affected from that \"endless play\" - \"gameplay-bug\" ?

if it are only a few, you could just make an announcement and say that you are sorry, but that a few scores needs to be deleted and that those gamers should try to make a new highscore, this time with enhanced level structure, as we discussed via email (drop speed going linearly up till 20G - instant drop is reached)

i think you could even easily filter for such scores: affected would be all scores, wich stay longer than 10 deleted layers in level 10.

and i would not restrict the new levels only to pit depths>10, because this would be inconsistent.

as fredjust calculated, there will be only very very few highscores that stay longer than 10 layers in level 10 in modes with pit depth <= 10, because nearly no one can play at 94 pieces per second..

i would say in summary, all depends on how many highscores are affected. if it are - lets say - below 50 highscores, i personally would say that its not too sad to delete those and notify the gamers about it.

very cool idea: interesting would be a graph showing every 10 seconds the blocks per minute speed! we then could see more the taktiks of some top gamers. do they play slow in the beginning, trying to stack nicely and making lots of 2,3,4 layers, or do they play constantly at highest possible speed, to make many many 1 lines etc.

Hi,

I\'ve just ended that chart, it\'s not yet perfect but It\'s working.
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... oreid=3402
Let me know what do you think ?

Concerning score invalidation, I need to make some checks on the DB.
But I almost sure that Flat-Fun high high-scores will be invalidated
if we consider adding extra level/mode for pitDepth>=12.

yes it\'s work but the last number isn\'t good >350 !!
you can limit vertical axe to 100 or 150

Post edited by: fredjust, at: 2008/01/24 19:31

i have no idea how to handle that problem.. i give up on this point. maybe someone else here in the forum has an idea? maybe old scores can somehow be scaled / truncated ? or flagged with a decay time? (i.e. all scores that go beyond level 10 for too long and thus are to high because of "endless play" become a "lifespan" of lets say 6 months. after that lifespan they will be moved to an archive of "old fabulous scores" or such..)

The last number is large because when you end a game, the last blocks
come rapidly. I\'m going to try to scale the Y axis to 2*average.
The problem is the clipping (part of the curve that must not be drawn),
I don\'t know if PHP can handle this. I will see.

I updated the chart with a best auto-scale and added the average.

Encore un petit effort et hop !

YES

and level 8 = 1.16 * level 7

so if I make the same game on level 8, I can do 189 000 * 1.16 = 219 000 :woohoo:

Don\'t do that otherwise you will create a singularity
in the high score list. It is like a black hole, you see it
but you can never reach it
