impersonation going on high-scores

Postby amit » Fri Nov 06, 2009 3:53 pm

someone seems to be impersonating me & mro and also some others in high scores, especially in 3x4x6 extended. hopefully the admins should look into this

maybe having people register & then post high scores will be a good idea. the username & password can be the same as in the forums. this impersonation of me, mro & others is getting annoying

amit,
please tell me wich highscores are not from you (specify the date, for example 07-Nov-2009 12:42:16) and i will delete them from the database.
the registered highscore feature is planned, but we have to wait for jean luc to implement it.

Hi Herc,
Here\'s a question I posted some time ago.
I want to use the \"getscores.php\" script to build a ranking system.
Is there any way to retrieve all the scores, or page the results, or order by timestamp instead of score?
Currently it seems to be limited to the top 1024 scores.

Thanks.

------

By the way, I also thought a possible solution to the impersonation issue without the need to touch the Blockout II client code or forcing the users to register.

The idea is to use one of the comment lines to enter a secret code. Let\'s say, the user enters this:

Code: Select all
Name   : santiago
Comment: Hi! This is my new hi-score
Comment: %mykeyisqwerty
Comment:
Comment:

The line starting with \"%\" is the secret code and should not be shown in the web site. It should be stored in the high scores table, and can be used to discriminate scores from another user using the same name.

Obviously, each user should use the same name and secret key consistently.

OK, that\'s just a quick idea and I may be missing something. It\'s not the final solution but as you can see it does not require updating the client code, only the web site code.
I have some time available to work on that if you want.

herc, these are some of the impersonated high-scores -

http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... reid=14836 - 3x3x15 extended, 7 nov 2009, 16:33:02
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... reid=14794 - 3x4x6 extended, 6 nov 2009, 06:05:12
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... reid=14781 - 3x4x6 extended, 5 nov 2009, 16:36:23
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... reid=14777 - 3x4x6 extended, 5 nov 2009, 16:29:58
http://www.blockout.net/blockout2/advst ... reid=14773 - 3x4x6 extended, 5 nov 2009, 16:19:47

i know that as i never uploaded those scores. it can be easily verified by IPs which were used to upload them. i will be having an indian(.in) IP whereas the impersonator will be having some other IP

and not only me, but others are also being impersonated on the high-score list

sorry, people, i have no time currently, i will try to fix stuff on the weekend.

@scblockout: i have it on my todo list, a simple script that will deliver you all scores in readonly mode, probably encoded into xml. maybe i will start on the weekend, too. it should not be too hard.
